Maxon Cinebench Updates

Maxon, the leading developer of professional 2D / 3D digital content creation and composting solutions, has just released Cinebench Release 23, an update to its industry-standard cross-platform benchmarking application that developers, analysts, and users alike trust to evaluate hardware performance. Cinebench uses advanced algorithms to visualize and render a three-dimensional scene on a computer. Cinebench scores are used by hardware manufacturers to optimize CPUs during the development process, and by manufacturers and consumers to rate systems.

This news follows the recent announcement that Cinema 4D, Maxon’s award-winning 3D animation software, is the first-ever professional 3D animation package for Apple’s new MacBook Air, 13-inch MacBook Pro, and Mac mini powered by the revolutionary M1 , the first in a family of chips designed by Apple specifically for the Mac.

“For more than a decade, Cinebench has been the premier tool for hardware manufacturers and industry analysts to assess system performance,” said David McGavran, Maxon Chief Executive Officer. “Cinebench R23 delivers the most accurate, stable results for the latest hardware, including Apple’s recently announced M1 Macs, to ensure users are running on the highest performing systems for demanding content creation and playback workloads.” Cinebench R23 uses the same powerful 3D engine in Cinema 4D Release 23 (Cinema 4D R23) to accurately evaluate CPU rendering performance capabilities on different systems and platforms.

Cinebench R23 feature highlights

  • Cinebench is now based on the latest Release 23 code that uses updated compilers and has a minimum runtime enabled by default (previously hidden in settings)
  • Cinebench R23 provides more stable and accurate results for high-performance systems and allows users to verify that the hardware is able to consistently deliver performance without throttling due to thermal problems.
  • Users now have the option to test single-core performance directly without manually enabling the “Advanced benchmark” option. With the “Advanced benchmark”, users can define any minimum runtime in order to test the hardware for an even longer period of time.
  • Due to the code and compiler changes, the Cinebench score values will be adjusted to a new range so that they should not be compared with the scores of previous Cinebench versions.

Pricing and availability / minimum system requirements

Cinebench Release 23 is available free of charge from the Maxon website and the Microsoft and Apple app stores:

The application runs under Windows 10 on an Intel or AMD 64-bit CPU with SSE3 support or macOS 10.13.6 or higher with a 64-bit CPU on an Intel-based Apple Macintosh and 4 GB RAM or Apple’s M1-based systems.
